redesigning the facial scrubber

A redesign of the facial scrubber, The Shmoosh is designed for optimal comfort and hygiene while washing your face. This product uses equally advanced t-sonic pulsating technology equipped with an ergonomic non-slip handle. Shmoosh allows you to firmly grip and cleanly rest your device while cleansing, leaving your skin feeling refreshed. Your facial scrubbing experience has just been enhanced.

USEROBSERVATIONS

Two user observations were conducted prior to any research about the product I was working with - the facial scrubber. I observed two users who fit the "ideal user persona" I was targeting. These observations revealed some pain points such as the grip of the product, cleanliness, and overall comfort in getting the most effective wash.

The outcomes from the user interviews gave me insight into areas I could improve on and redesign in my own design of the facial scrubber. I wanted to target areas like ergonomic grip, hygiene especially in a bathroom or shared bathroom scenario, and effectively clearing acne.

MACKENZIE

Mackenzie is a college student who spends time studying, doodling in her sketchbook, working at starbucks or hanging with her friends/ boyfriend.

When she has personal time she spends it scrolling through her phone, listening to music or shopping the local thrift stores.

She tries her best to do a facemask at least once a week for self care and to help with her acne/ her mask acne.

IDEATIONSKETCHES

For my ideation sketches, I was initially inspired by nature and the form of a mushroom. It seemed to be a form that had all of the components I was looking for built into the shape. I did my sketches keeping the stem and head of the mushroom in mind. Ultimately the final result looked similar to a mushroom form but is not an exact replica, just an inspiration for the form factor.

These models were all spun on the lathe from foam to wood. They are meant to visually show and physically test the comfort and appearance of the facial scrubber's base, handle, and head. The two dots shown represent the two models that were used as references for the final design.

REDESIGNCOMPONENTS

Components that make up the Shmoosh. Included is the charging base that has a glow indication of the charging level. The base also acts as a "home" for the Shmoosh to live so it avoids touching counter and sink tops.

PRODUCTSTORYBOARD

1. The home base for your Shmoosh facial scrubber. It assists in not letting the scrubber touch the unsanitary sink/ counter top

2. Apply your desired facial cleanser onto the device to prepare for your face wash

3. Twist the device’s base counter clockwise to turn on the scrubber. The device will vibrate, that is the T-Sonic pulsating technology

4. Grip the device with the handle/ stem of the deivce in between two fingers. Begin washing the face using circular motions

5. Continue scrubbing until the whole face is soapy. Use swiping motions across the forehead and nose area. Then rinse face

6. Twist the device’s base clockwise to turn the scrubber and the T-Sonic pulsation off

7. Once the devide is turned off it can return to its home base and charging port

8. While the device is charging it will be illuminated with a green light indicative of its charging status
